One of the great things about weapons like the Citadel Boss 25 is their simplicity. Ideal for short-range targets, shotguns are very simple to operate and devastatingly good at taking down intruders and scaring off bears. All that said, there are still some basic facts that you should know when buying yours or ammunition for it to ensure you get the right products.

So, let’s get started and take a look at some of the basic info you don’t exactly need to know, but that will help you in the long run.

Some Basic Facts About Using a Citadel Boss 25

There are a number of terms you’ll hear from people who use guns, like the Citadel Boss 25, and when you know what they’re talking about, it makes things so much easier.

Cylinder Choke Constrictions – a term that you’ll often hear used in the shotgun arena, and it can be defined in the following way. What the word is talking about is a shotgun specification that relies upon the patterning results it offers over, say, over 40 yards.

For instance, if you get a 30-inch pattern over this distance, it means that there is no cylinder choke restriction involved. However, if the pattern is 50 inches, the opposite applies.

Gauge – when someone talks about a shotgun’s gauge, what they’re actually referring to is the quantity of equally-sized lead balls that comprise one pound (in weight).

Shot Spread – Now, this is a term that most people are familiar with, but not all. The shot spread of a shotgun is the metric that relates to how far the pellets with spread from the point of being shot. Typically speaking, lead shot spreads at 1 inch per yard, so you’ll get a spread of 3 inches over 9 feet.

Pellet Penetration – there’s a common misconception in circulation that smaller shot pellets will penetrate further into whatever you’re shooting at. The actual truth of the matter is that larger pellets are heavier, which results in great energy transfer. This means that heavier pellets penetrate further than small ones.

Payload – another very common term in the shotgun world is payload – something that’s typically measured in ounces. It refers to the complete weight of the shot charge, which usually involves 9 pellets with 3-inch loads. When you have a heavier payload, you don’t necessarily get higher levels of energy, but you do get denser patterns.

Barrel Length – the barrel length of a shotgun is metric that matters, as modern powders used in shotshells burn when passing through the initial 13-16 inches. Due to the fact that it takes a moment longer for the pressure to build, maximum speed is reached by 20 inches – meaning that represents the optimal length.

Understanding the Citadel Boss 25 Fully Just Takes Some Time

If you’re new to gun ownership and you get a bit confused when people start rattling off terms and lingo, you don’t understand, don’t worry, as it just takes a little time to get to know. That’s all.

We’ve covered some of the main terms here. However, there are many more. If Boss 25 is for home defence, it does pay to take the time to learn the jargon, as it makes things a lot easier.
